At just $349, HP Stream is an ideal choice for people who want to access the internet and work on MS Office 365 remotely, but don’t need a powerful, fully featured notebook.
Released as a challenger to the range of Chromebooks currently available, the HP Stream has a 720p screen, a dual-core Intel processor, 2GB of RAM and runs full Windows 8.
The Stream’s main advantage is that it ships with a year subscription for MS Office 365 and runs all the progams well.
Unlike most Chromebooks, the ability to run Windows 8 gives you access to many more business applications. With Office 365 for a year, you get Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook etc and an included 1TB of OneDrive storage.
So for your average business worker who only needs a mobile device to type into basic apps and access the internet, the Stream is a viable and capable office machine.
With HP’s legendary build quality, and nice-for-typing keyboard, the HP Stream 11 is a solid performer in a competitive market.
While the screen quality is not the best on the market it is more than acceptable, given the price point.
Ports available are USB 2.0, 3.0 port, HDMI, and an SD card reader.
While the HP Stream runs full Windows 8.1, you need to remember it only has 2GB of RAM, so you won’t be able to run memory-hungry programs like Photoshop.
While browsing the internet, reviewers say you can run up to 12 tabs before performance becomes noticeable degraded.
The HP Stream’s battery will last up to around six hours. So it’s not an option for continual remote use where powerpoints are not available. But it is more than enough to last a day of intermittent use.
If you have staff or students that need to work remotely, using Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook etc, and browsing the internet, but don’t need all the capability that a powerful notebook provides, then the HP Stream is an excellent choice.
